Entry Information Guidelines
Members have the option to have any of their entries judged by an NQA certified judge (maximum one per category).
No entries from our previous shows are permitted.
All entries must be pre-registered by Jan. 24, 2010.
Judged Entries:
1st, 2nd, and 3rd place ribbons will be awarded, if merited, in each judged category.
Honorable Mention ribbons will be awarded when merited.
Best of Show award will be selected from the 1st place winners.
Additional ribbons awarded for Diamond Jubilee Special Award, Best Appliqué Quilt, Best Pieced Quilt, Best Hand Quilting, Best Home Machine Quilting and Best Long-Arm Machine Quilting (excluding collaborative and group categories).
Cash prizes are $25 for 1st place, $15 for 2nd place, $10 for 3rd place, $5 for Honorable Mention; $50 for Best of Show; $25 for Diamond Jubilee Special Award, Best Appliqué Quilt, Best Pieced Quilt, Best Hand Quilting, Best Home Machine Quilting, and Best Long-Arm Quilting. All judged entry ribbons will be placed on the quilts before the show opens on Thursday, March 1.
All Guild Challenge entries will be judged by a separate committee for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place ribbons with cash awards of $25 for 1st place, $15 for 2nd place, $10 for 3rd place. Diamond Jubilee Special Award will be awarded to quilt that best depicts “Diamond Jubilee”. Any category.
Viewer’s Choice: One ribbon will be awarded in each category from all show entries, judged and non-judged. There will be no cash prizes for Viewer’s Choice awards. The Viewer’s Choice ribbons will be awarded on Friday afternoon, March 2.
Youth Quilts: Youth Quilts are not eligible for awards but will receive recognition.
Categories:
100 Small Pieced Quilts – machine quilted, more than 75% pieced ●259” or less perimeter
200 Large Pieced Quilts – machine quilted, more than 75% pieced ●260” or larger perimeter.
300 Pieced Quilts –hand quilted, more than 75% pieced, excluding Innovative,and Art quilts ●any size.
400 Appliqué Quilts – hand quilted, more than 75% appliqué ●any size.
500 Appliqué Quilts – machine quilted, more than 75% appliqué ●any size.
600 Small Collaborative Quilts – made by two people, including quilting stitches ●259” or less perimeter.
700 Large Collaborative Quilts – made by two people, including quilting stitches ●260” or larger perimeter.
800 Group Quilts – made by 3 or more people ● any size, any technique.
900 Mixed Techniques Quilts –quilts having more than one technique (applique,pieced,etc.) ●any size.
1000 Innovative quilts – an original interpretation of an existing pattern. ●any size, any style.
1100 Art Quilts – entrant’s original design. ●any size, any style.
1200 Miniature Quilts –all aspects of quilt must be a scaled down version of a large quilt design ●96” or less perimeter
1300 Other Techniques – Cathedral Windows, Crazy Quilts, Yo-Yos, Trapunto, Whole Cloth ●any Size
1400 Wearables – must have at least two (2) layers with majority of item quilted.
1500 Guild Challenge Entries – Cinderella said “A Shoe can change your life” ●80” or less perimeter.
SPECIAL EXHIBIT Youth Quilt – age 17 and under. Must be family member of guild member. Only 1 entry per
Youth. ● 200” or less perimeter, any style.
>Pink Pre-registration Form and Green Entry Form for each entry.
>Member entering a quilt (the Exhibitor) must be one of the makers of the quilt.
>All categories except Collaborative (600, 700 & 800) must be made entirely by one person, including quilting.
>Perimeter refers to the measurement all the way around the outside of a quilt.
>Applique is fastening a fabric piece on top of another fabric using hand or machine stitching, and/or a fusible product,
or any other method of attachment.
>2 quilts maximum per category per member for lodged quilts only.
>Quilts that require special handling cannot be accommodated.
>5" Sleeve must be sewn to back of quilts except Miniature Quilts (1200), Small Wall Hangings (800), Medium Wall Hangings (900), and Challenge (1400) entries.
>Top of the sleeve needs to be 85" from the bottom of a large quilt to prevent the quilt from dragging on the floor
and getting soiled.
>The owner's name and phone number must be stitched to a lower corner of each quilt back or wearable item.
>If an entry is to be judged, please cover your name (any place it appears on the front or back) by using safety pins to pin a piece of muslin over it for the judging. DO NOT USE STRAIGHT PINS—disqualification may result. After judging, the muslin will be removed for the show.
>A fabric bag, with your name on it, is required for EACH ENTRY. PLEASE, no plastic bags.
>All items included in the fabric bag with each entry must be identified with your name (for example, if your quilt is wrapped around a styrofoam "noodle", the noodle must have your name on it).
>We reserve the right to choose the articles for display if more items are received than can be properly exhibited.
>If a category has less than 5 entries, the entries may be moved into another category.
>All entries must remain on display through 4 p.m. Friday.

SECURITY:
The Lake County Quilters Guild, Inc. will take the utmost care of each entry, but insurance to cover any damage or loss must be carried by each individual who enters an item. Neither Lake County Quilters Guild, Inc. nor Lake Receptions, Inc. can be responsible for any damage or theft. During the show, full-time hostesses will be present to prevent people from touching or handling the entries without a glove. No smoking, food or drink will be allowed in the show area.
INSURANCE:
When you pre-register your entry you will be able to purchase insurance, with the charges based on your estimated value of your quilt. The coverage is on a comprehensive basis (including wear and tear, deterioration, depreciation, insects, rodents, vermin, rust, unexplained disappearance, theft from an unattended motor vehicle unless there are marks of forcible entry and other exclusions) as listed on the endorsement.
PICK-UP OF ENTRIES:
Entries can be picked up between 4:30 p.m. and 5:00 p.m., Friday, March 2. No one except authorized workers will be admitted to the show area until the items are ready to be released to their owners. No entry will be released without a receipt. The Pink Registration form will be returned to you at quilt take-in and is your receipt to pick up your entry.

The Pink Registration Forms, Green Entry Forms, and White Insurance Forms are available from Peggy Weichel or at the meeting reception table. Read all instructions carefully and complete the forms accurately.
